In 2016, Louisiana adopted Medicaid Expansion which allowed for many Louisianans to have access to medical care during the COVID-19 Pandemic. Amid the pandemic, states were prohibited from disenrolling residents from March 2020 to May 2023. As of May 2023, the federal government lifted the disenrollment pause allowing states to begin the redetermination process and remove residents from Medicaid.

Over a million Louisiana residents rely on Medicaid for vital healthcare coverage. As of January 2024, 421,449 Louisianans, including 126,087 children, had lost their Medicaid coverage as a result of a process known as "Medicaid Unwinding". Many of these terminations were due to procedural issues like missing paperwork and/or system errors.

Join the Louisiana Center for Health Equity in urging the state to pause procedural terminations and implement a fair redetermination process. Click the link below to sign on in support of the Hands Off Our Healthcare: Keeping Families Covered Campaign.
